From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Julian Flynn Actor Julian Flynn is currently enjoying his supporting role in the NETFLIX movie "Wasp Network," an international spy drama, from french Director Olivier Assayas of the critically-acclaimed movies "Clouds of Sils Maria" and "Personal Shopper."

The controversial film "Wasp Network" is the story of five Cuban political prisoners who had been imprisoned by the United States since the late 1990s on charges of espionage and murder. Flynn plays the role of Hector “El Tigre” Viamonte (PUND’s pilot) joining with its stars: Penelope Cruz, Edgar Ramirez, Gael Garcia Bernal, and fellow Cuban actress, Ana de Armas.

Art is imitating life, literally, for Flynn, the burgeoning (Cuban-born) actor who in real-life is also a single and multi-engine rated pilot; Flynn is no stranger to heights, either, having served as an Airborne infantry paratrooper with the US Army 82nd Airborne Division where Flynn became a naturalized US citizen. Interestingly enough, Flynn was not able to use his given birth name (Jose Perez) when he registered at SAG in 1996 because the name was already taken.

Flynn is also a proud US Army veteran; he went through numerous military training receiving, expert Infantryman badge, recondo school, air assault, jungle expert, and Canadian Airborne wings, to name a few including, the leadership award recipient in primary non-commissioned officers academy, where he graduated at the top of his class.

After completing his service with an honorable discharge, Julian went back to school under the Veterans Educational Assistant Program, where he studied for two years before deciding to pursue an acting career.

The square jawed and easy-on-the-eyes Flynn, looks like a young Andy Garcia, mixed with the intensity of Robert De Niro and the flair of Joe Pesci. Flynn was introduced to Hollywood in his first starring role as Nico in "Lying Right Here” which was a suspenseful Film Noir that made its debut at the 2010 "Hollyshorts Film Festival," where his mesmerizing performance resulted in the film receiving the "Audience Choice Award."

Flynn then completed the film "Double Crossed,” an action thriller starring Miguel A. Nunez Jr. ("Juwanna Mann”) which was directed by actor Gary Anthony Sturgis ("Diary of a Mad Black Woman”) where he plays Frank Morelli, the Capo of a prominent crime family that was released in 2011.

A playwright and producer, respectively, Julian has co-written the stage play "Tea For Four,” a romantic comedy currently in development. He has co-produced and appeared in the film, "Near Myth: The Oskar Knight Story," a mock-umentary tale of the life-and-times of director Oskar Knight.

A screenplay writer, Julian is a co-writer, co-producer, and will be starring in the action-thriller, "The Last Hit," working with writer/director Joseph Armillas. The film is slated to start principle photography in the Fall of 2020.

Flynn recalls with an ear-to-ear smile: "Since 'Wasp Network' was being shot in Cuba and Gran Canaria, I was able to go back to Havana and Santiago de las Vegas, Cuba after 52 years and visit my family as a working actor in a major film."

Flynn has a myriad of celebrated Cuban family members who are also performers in the fine arts: Juan Carlos Perez, a cousin, who is a very well-known troubadour singer, songwriter and classical guitar player; he's an original member of the "Nueva Trova Cubana" movement since 1974. He continues to help open doors in Cuba for the younger generations of performing artists, and hopefully, some day soon, he will be able to perform in the United States.

Flynn's female cousin, also a well-known published poet, Maria De Las Mercedes Perez Hernandez, has won awards in Cuba and Europe. Juan Carlos has a son Ariam Lazaro Perez who is a well-known and award-winning painter in Spain and the Canary Islands, as well as Cuba. His paternal grandfather was Jose Carlos Perez-Brito, a well-know lyricist, singer and classical guitar player.

Stateside in Tampa, Florida, Flynn's younger brother, Robert Perez, lives with his wife Sherrie and his nephews Branden & Cameron. In the mid 1980’s, Robert won the title of "Mr. Tampa."

Flynn didn’t plan on becoming an actor. He just kind of fell into acting, but once he got a taste-- he was all in. He started with a bit part on "The Girl Next Door" with director Luke Greenfield and worked with a couple of other newcomers Elisha Cuthbert and Emile Hirsch.

He numbers among his favorite actors, fellow Latino leading men: Andy Garcia, Benicio Del Toro, and Javier Bardem, as well as, Tom Cruise, Robert Downey, Jr., and Michael Keaton.

The bi-coastal actor splits his leisure time between visits with his family and life-long friends in West Tampa and his LA residence in West Hollywood. The sports aficionado also splits his "fan time" equally cheering for his favorite teams: the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, LA Rams, the Dodgers and Tampa Bay Lightning.

Flynn and his family are proud that they all entered the United States as part of the legalized US permanent residency program; they flew from Cuba to Spain and then to Miami, before finally settling down in Tampa Bay, Florida. In fact, Flynn's greatest inspiration was his mother, Gladis, who was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis (when she was just 15) making the rest of her short-life that much harder in a wheelchair.

A devout Catholic, Flynn was educated in his early years at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Ybor City, and Christ The King Catholic Church, in Tampa. He was graduated from Jefferson High School also in Tampa.
