Julio Arístides Baldomero Baltasar Alemany Sánchez (17 February 1860 – 26 May 1917) was a Chilean politician, lawyer and farmer affiliated with the Liberal Democratic Party.

He served as Deputy of the Republic for Lebu, Cañete and Arauco for three consecutive legislative periods between 1900 and 1909.[1]

Biography

Alemany was born in Santiago on 17 February 1860, the son of professor Baltasar Alemany Aeta and Alejandrina Sánchez del Carril. He married his cousin Loreto Valledor Sánchez in Santiago on 27 December 1887.[1]

He received his primary education at Francisco Villarino's school and entered the Instituto Nacional in 1870. After obtaining his bachelor's degree in 1875, he studied law at the University of Chile, receiving his law degree in 1879 and qualifying as a lawyer on 12 December 1880.[1]

Alemany pursued a judicial career, serving as prosecutor in Lima in 1883 and subsequently as judge in Osorno, La Ligua, San Bernardo and La Serena. In the latter city, he also served on several occasions as a member of the Court of Appeals.[1]

In 1890, he was offered the position of Minister of Justice but declined the appointment. Following the Chilean Civil War of 1891, in which he supported the government of President José Manuel Balmaceda, he withdrew from the judiciary and devoted himself primarily to agricultural activities.[1]

Political career

Alemany participated in the reorganization of the Liberal Democratic movement after 1891. He became president of its first party board in La Ligua in 1893 and later served on its General Board, executive boards and directing committees.[1]

In 1897, he was initially declared presumptive Deputy for Cauquenes and Constitución, but held that position only until 18 June 1897, when Eufrosino Casal assumed the seat.[1]

Alemany was subsequently elected Deputy for Lebu, Cañete and Arauco for three consecutive terms, serving from 1900 to 1903, 1903 to 1906 and 1906 to 1909.[1]

In 1909, he declined to seek another term in the Chamber. That year, the Senate elected him a State Councillor, and he was reelected to the position in 1912.[1]
