Jump Class
Jump Class (跳班) is a Singaporean comic strip, written by Johnny Lau (刘夏宗) and illustrated by 翁添保. The comic revolves around a young boy who can travel across two different dimensions during his sleep.[1] It is written in Chinese throughout. Two volumes of the comic were printed and released to the public. Jump Class made its television debut in 2015, airing a total of ten episodes. A larger work was published in 2022, consisting of the material of the first two volumes, as well as including material from three unpublished volumes[2].
Synopsis
The protagonist, Wang Xiaofeng (王小丰), finds himself travelling between two different dimensions, directly translated as 'kuaikuai' world (快快世界) and the other 'lele world' (乐乐世界). He discovers that he is able to travel universes every night, waking up in a different world every other day. 'Lele world' is often categorised by the subversion of the norms of 'kuaikuai' world. In 'lele world', his friend Zhang Mingren (张名仁) is able to read the minds of others. In addition, characters such as his father, Principal Chen (陈校长), Liu Weida (刘伟达) and Xu Wenwen (徐文文) have completely different character traits from their otherworldly counterparts. 'Lele world' and its stark differences and eccentricities makes Xiaofeng question the rules, regulations, rationality and logic of 'kuaikuai' world.
Publishing History
The first volume, published on 1st January 2013, had 21,500 copies printed[3]. The second volume suffered a significant decrease in printings, resulting in only 5000 copies being printed [4]
