June 2015 New York City pressure cooker bomb plot

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The June 2015 New York City pressure cooker bomb plot by Munther Omar Saleh, Fareed Mumuni, and another unnamed man sought to detonate a pressure cooker bomb in New York City in support of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIS).[1][2][3]

Arrests[edit]

On June 13, 2015, police arrested Munther Omar Saleh and another unidentified man in Queens, saying that he was looking for materials to build a bomb. The FBI had been listening to his communications and said he had been expressing support for ISIS. He had tweeted his support for ISIS and that Al Qaeda was "too moderate". At one point, he told an agent that he was "trying to do an op." The arrest came immediately after Saleh charged at a surveillance vehicle with a sword.

On June 17, Federal agents arrested Fareed Mumuni in his home. During the arrest, Mumuni repeatedly tried to stab an agent with a large sword. However, the stabs did not penetrate the agent's body armor.[1][2][4][5]

On June 19, 2015, the FBI arrested Samuel Rahamin Topaz in the plot. Prosecutors alleged that Topaz wanted to go to Syria to ISIS. He was charged with providing material support to ISIS.[6] In September 2015, Topaz plead guilty to conspiring to provide material support and resources to ISIS.[7]
