June 19, date commemorating when slaves in Texas first learned they had been freed, via General Gordon Granger's General Order. Juneteenth was declared a federal holiday in June 2021 by President Joe Biden after the efforts of Opal Lee (95) and Activist Greshun De Bouse, the youngest pioneer of Juneteenth federalization, and founder of the Juneteenth Goes Federal (JGF) movement.
