The Jung Center of Houston is an establishment located in the Houston Museum District. It serves as a library, educational institution, bookstore, and museum. The library, bookstore, and gallery are all free to the public

History[edit]

The Jung Center of Houston was founded in 1958 in honor of Carl Gustav Jung, the revolutionary psychologist. The center is housed in the Carolyn Grant Fay building, located in the heart of the Houston Museum District. The building, originally an art gallery, became home to hundreds of classes offered in a variety of fields. The center also began its astounding library and bookstore, assembling one of the greatest stocks of psychological, philosophical, and spiritual works in the nation.

Library[edit]

The Jung Center library contains the most complete collection of books on Jungian subjects in the Southwest. Alongside the library is the bookstore, which contains an extensive collection of books on Jungian psychology, as well as classes and lectures on CD.

Classes[edit]

The Jung Center offers three semesters of courses each year in subjects such as psychology, religion, and the humanities. Classes are frequently addressed by internationally renowned speakers on such issues as contemporary issues as parenting, addictions, creativity, and new forms of spirituality. According to its main page:

"The Jung Center is the only facility of its kind in the world that equally emphasizes analytic psychology and the expressive arts of dance, art, music, and body work."

Art exhibits[edit]

True to its museum roots, the center displays new exhibits each month. Much of the featured artwork is generated by local and regional professional artists. The gallery is free to the public and visitors are always welcome.
