The Junkyard Wizards are an Australian rock band formed in 2018 in Melbourne. They are a four-piece band consisting of keyboardist and vocalist Charlie Fox, guitarist Ryan Seymour, bassist Mary Fox, and drummer Harry Fox. Their psychedelic sound is primarily influenced by Pink Floyd, Sleep, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, and King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, along with others.[1] The band themselves have described their music as "neo-post-progadelic-but-sometimes-post-black-stoner-gaze", detailing their vast array of musical genres and conventions.[2]
They've released two singles, "The Cosmic Cake", "Waiting Music", and "Falling into Place", and one EP, And So It Began.... They've also appeared on the doom rock song, "Smashing Atoms" by Gangrenous Toenail. Live renditions of their songs "The Cosmic Cake"[3], "Prelude"[4], "Midnight Meandering", and "The Sky As We Know It"[5] can be found online but are not available on music streaming services. Their debut album, The Sky As We Know It, is set for release sometime in late 2025.[6]
In 2022, the band were crowned the winners of the Macedon Ranges Battle of the Bands competition, earning the Judges Prize of $500 AUD.[7] They've performed at various venues in and around the Melbourne area, including The Tote Hotel in Collingwood, Shotkickers in Thornbury, Kindred Studios in Footscray, the Hanging Rock Reserve in Newham, Major Tom's in Kyneton, among others.[8]
