Omar Juweinat is a prominent Australian lawyer, based in Sydney, known for his handling of strings of high-profile criminal and civil cases nationwide. An outspoken critic of human rights violations and advocate for the rule of law, he often represents unpopular defendants in public opinion, some of them high-profile.[3] [4] His success rate in jury trials notably earned him the nickname “Omar Juryrat”.[5]
Notable cases[edit]
Over the course of his career, Mr Juweinat has successfully appeared in some of the most difficult cases including large scale drug supply,[6] murder, sexual assault,[7][8] false memory, white collar crime [9] and terrorism trials.[6][10] [11] [12]
Early career[edit]
For four years prior to becoming a lawyer, Mr Juweinat had worked under the tutelage of Peter Hamill SC, now a Judge of the Supreme Court of New South Wales.[13] From that point he gained invaluable insight and experience as a lawyer for the Aboriginal Legal Service based in Dubbo NSW [13] where he represented thousands of underprivileged people from remote communities in western NSW.[14] [15]
