Early life and education
Jyothika born was on 17 September, 2006, was as Sumitra Baliarsingh, the eldest of three children of Gagan Bihari Baliarsingh (also known as Gurei) and Manjulata Baliarsingh (née Patra). Her father is a trained tailor who established a garment shop on 7 August 2021, and her mother is a homemaker who assists in the family business. She has a younger sister, Madhusmita Baliarsingh, and a younger brother, Viswajit Baliarsingh. Her upbringing in Kamaguru was described as being grounded in "local commerce and household management."
Jyothika attended Kamaguru Nodal High School, completing her 10th grade in 2021. It was during these formative years that she entered the performing arts, beginning a stint as a child dancer with the Brilliant Group Team. Following this, she enrolled for higher secondary education at Rama Chandra Kalpana Junior Mahavidyalaya, in locally asKamaguru College. She discontinued her studies after the 11th standard in 2022.
Career
Alongside her husband, she established ManguJyoti Studioz. She has appeared in the music album ManguJyoti, as well as the short films ManguJyoti Chapter 1 and ManguJyoti Chapter 2. Eventually, she signed an exclusive contract with her husband and made her debut as a music distributor.
Personal life
Jyothika's relationship with Mangesh Kumar Sahoo, also commonly known as Mangu Kumar Sahoo, began online via Facebook Messenger. They had their first in-person meeting at a bank in Kamaguru on 20 September 2021, and formally confirmed their relationship the following day. At the time of their first meeting, Mangu was 20 and Jyothika was 15.
The relationship faced strong opposition from Jyothika's family. Her father reportedly asked Mangu to take her away, which she refused to accept after informing her family. After dating for two years, the couple eloped on 9 February 2023 at 6:36 PM, traveling from Kamaguru to Siko in Khordha district. They stayed with Mangu's aunt and uncle. On the third day, Mangu's mother, Lata Sahoo, and sister, Rashmita Sahoo, decided the couple should wed. They were married privately on 12 February 2023 at the Maa Mangala Temple in Raj-Jankia village, Nayagarh district, Odisha. At the time of the wedding, Mangu was 22 and Jyothika was 17.
The couple has one daughter, Elesha Sahoo, born on 22 January 2024. Together, they are widely recognized by the portmanteau "ManguJyoti".
