K-bap Restaurant (HangulK-밥 식당; HanjaK-밥 食堂, also written as K-bab) is a Korean restaurant located in Pontianak City, West Kalimantan Province, Republic of Indonesia. The restaurant was founded by Kim Dae-sik (Hangul김대식; Hanja金大植), officially opened on November 26, 2016, and started with 11 employees.[2] The restaurant is the first Korean restaurant in West Kalimantan that is maintained and served directly by Korean people, who also brought original ingredients directly from Korea.

Naming

The globally widespread phenomenon of Korean culture, called Hallyu, also spread Korean pop music or K-pop (Korean: K-팝 or 케이팝) globally. Inspired by this term, the character (pap) is substituted with the similar-sounding (bap), which means cooked rice in Korean language. So K-밥 (K-bap) is used as the restaurant's name.
