Biography[edit]

K.A.A.N. grew up with an abusive father. He talks constantly about wanting to show he is worth it and about his anxiety and depression, along with other mental health issues. At the age of 10, he bought everything Tupac had put out. He also listened to artists such as Nas and Eminem. Brandon Perry worked in masonry early in his career and also worked at a construction company, along with numerous other jobs he references having in his music and interviews. He came up with the name K.A.A.N. while he was working desk front at a hotel, getting it from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, but he changed the H to an A to make it into an acronym that had meaning to him: "Knowledge Above All nonsense".

Musical Career[edit]

Brandon Perry began writing music in 2012 and started recording in 2013 after he witnessed a Logic concert in Baltimore[1]. He has stated that his favorite part of music is the expressionist part. he's quoted on saying "Like how you can say the craziest thoughts, feelings, and emotions inside of you, put it in over instruments, put it out—and then you find there are people that feel exactly the same as you do. I spend all of my free time writing or recording. I work best when I’m just left alone, so I’m always isolated without any real human interaction, so its cool that I can be cut off from the world, but still be able to express my self and the way I feel."[2] He goes on to talk about how music is the only therapy he has. Brandon states that he doesn't make music unless he believes it has substance to it, and that he differentiates himself by just how relatable his lyrics can be. K.A.A.N. is very hard on himself. He does not listen to any of his music because he "would take it all down". His favorite part of music is the honesty in his lyrics.[3]
