K2 Geospatial

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

K2 Geospatial, formerly KHEOPS Technologies, is a Canadian company that was established in Québec City in 1995. K2 designs and develops software solutions leveraging geospatial technology. The company is committed to bringing spatial analysis data and tools within everyone’s reach. By developing its software solutions, K2 provides effective visual aids to decision makers from companies of varying sizes. The company is based in the city of Montréal, in the Canadian province of Quebec.

Products and Services[edit]

K2 Geospatial offers an integrated range of data management products and services. The company’s software solutions are destined to making spatial information and its analysis tools accessible to everyone. JMap, K2’s flagship technology, allows users to access, analyze and share all of their data through a single platform. In other words, this map-based integration platform eliminates the issue of siloed data connections and systems. These data sets are then connected to create fully integrated IT ecosystems. 9 JMap is also the only map-based integration platform that can connect to any system or data source without disrupting what is already in place..[1], thus removing any interoperability issues. JMap is widely used in many professional and academic fields[2]. Every day, hundreds of employees and citizens from various walks of life use JMap to access their spatial and non-spatial data in order to improve their operational and strategic decisions[3].

Available in three languages (French, English, and Spanish), the platform is also offered in three versions (JMap Pro, JMap Mobile, and JMap Web), which adapt to the needs of all types of users. Each version of JMap performs the same three key functions: connecting various systems together, consolidating a variety of information, and publishing data to improve real-time decision-making[4]. With the widespread development of mobile applications, the information shared on the various versions of JMap has been made available in real time and in non-real time on all types of devices. Lastly, in February 2017, K2 announced a new version of its technology, JMap 7. More powerful, robust and interoperable than ever before, this seventh version of JMap provides decision makers, analysts and users with additional tools to improve their decisions and actions in real time[5].

K2 Geospatial’s team also offers comprehensive services to help organizations implement powerful solutions geared towards optimizing and simplifying their decisions. The company provides consultation and development services adapted to its clients’ specific needs. K2 also offers managed administration services and training courses on the various aspects of the JMap platform[6]

JMap User Community[edit]

K2 Geospatial gives conferences destined to JMap users, K2 Geospatial partners, and any people interested in the JMap map-based integration platform and its use within organizations[7]. These events offer participants an opportunity to learn more about the many possibilities and applications of JMap. K2 has also been offering JMap Users Conferences for over a decade[8]. Over the years, these conferences have taken place in a variety of innovative, exciting and knowledge-rich venues, such as the Centre for Sustainable Development, the Montreal Biosphere[9] and Mines ParisTech. JMap Users Conferences allow participants to improve their knowledge through technical workshops and to network with the community of JMap users, administrators and developers[10].

Fields of application[edit]

JMap is used in a variety of global industries, including:

International development[edit]

K2 Geospatial currently has offices in the U.S. city of Boston and in Santiago, the capital of Chile. Thanks to a variety of partnerships and business relationships, the company has expanded its activity to several international markets. In fact, during a recent meeting in Peru with a former international consultant from the Quebec government, K2 successfully leveraged its professional strategy and established its reputation in the region[22]. In sum, the JMap map-based integration platform is currently deployed and used by over 450 organizations in the Americas and Europe[23][24], including Nestlé, the City of Montreal, Antamina, Toulouse-Blagnac Airport, the Brazilian navy, and the Geographic Institute Agustín Codazzi, to name only a few.[25][26]

Memberships[edit]

K2 Geospatial is a member of the following associations:

  • The Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo): OSGeo is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and promoting the collaborative development of open source geospatial technology and data[27].
  • The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC): The OGC is an international consortium committed to elaborating interface standards, which are accessible to the public and allow for the development of interoperable solutions[28]
  • The Quebec Technology Association (AQT): The Quebec Technology Association is a not-for-profit and self-funded organization committed to the development of the ICT industry. The organization develops various tools and methods to provide companies with guidance and support them in their growth[29]

These alliances generate many positive and beneficial effects for the company: increased networking opportunities, enhanced professional development, stronger industrial outreach, improved and accelerated sharing of expertise, etc.

Partners[edit]

Based on its market profile, K2 Geospatial has developed two types of strategic partnerships, Firstly, some of its partners are authorized resellers, who promote, resell and implement K2 Geospatial’s solutions as is or interfaced with their own solutions. Secondly, K2’s technology partners complement the company’s solutions and expertise with their own know-how and technology to offer integrated solutions meeting the specific needs of certain companies[30]. iPorta[31], Cayenta[32] and PG Solutions[33] are just some of the companies who have established these types of partnerships with K2 Geospatial.
