The KCA International Stadium (Simply “The Net”) is a new project by the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) as grand addition to the sporting landscape of Kochi. This will be the first International Ground owned by the KCA. The current proposal shows an architectural modern design that resembles the Chinese Fishing Nets of Kochi. The proposed stadium promises to be a game-changer for cricket enthusiasts in the region and is expected to elevate Kochi’s status as a prominent cricketing hub, hoping to bring test matches to Kerala for the very first time. The current land planned for this is near the Cochin International Airport.

In January, the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) initiated a call for Expressions of Interest (EOI) from landowners willing to provide a contiguous land parcel of 20–30 acres located within a 30 km radius of Kochi city. The KCA has stipulated that the chosen land should have excellent connectivity and a direct road access of at least 15 meters, ensuring smooth traffic flow onto a national or state highway. Proximity to a railway station and an airport is also preferred.

The ambitious timeline for the stadium construction aims to see the project completed within three years, with an estimated budget of approximately Rs 250 crore.

"The response surpassed our expectations. The volume of letters received from landowners was astounding. While our initial requirement was a location within a 30 km radius of the city, EOIs were received even from adjacent districts," commented Jayesh George, the Joint Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

George explained that the submissions came both from individual landowners and from groups collaborating. "Our task now is to review the applications and assess their respective areas. To select a suitable site, our architectural team and legal department will meticulously examine the proposals. After encountering challenges with the Edakochi site, we're proceeding with caution to avoid any complications. Therefore, a thorough verification of each land document is essential reaching a decision," Jayesh elaborated.[1]
