KEAN Building in Limassol is a former industrial complex that housed the main factory of the Cypriot Soft Drinks Company (KEAN). It is located along the coastal avenue of Limassol and has been associated for decades with the production of soft drinks and fruit juices in Cyprus.

History

KEAN was founded in 1949. The company’s main factory in Limassol began operations on 1 July 1956.[1]

The establishment of the factory in the coastal area of the city was linked to the post-war industrial development of Limassol.

For several decades, the factory served as the company’s primary production facility and became closely associated with the development of Cyprus’s food and beverage industry.[1]

Architecture

The complex is considered an example of post-war industrial architecture in Cyprus. Its design is characterized by a functional arrangement of production spaces and a façade featuring elements associated with Art Deco aesthetics.

A notable feature of the building is the presence of two mosaic decorations depicting bottles of the company’s products at the entrance of the facility.

Urban development of the area

During the late 20th and early 21st centuries, the coastal area of Limassol experienced significant residential and tourism development. As a result, the KEAN factory, originally located in an industrial zone, became part of a broader urban and tourist environment.

Relocation of facilities and redevelopment plans

During the 2020s, the company relocated its production activities to the Ypsonas industrial area.[2]

In 2023, KEAN was acquired by the real estate development company bbf:.[3] [4]

According to published reports, plans for the former factory site include a mixed-use development incorporating residential, commercial, and office spaces, as well as green areas.[3]
