James Joyner V (born April 23, 1996), known professionally as KNG Smalls, is an American rapper and singer. He is best known for his songs "Basiica", "Have Heart" ,"Sides", and "Right Now".

Early Life[edit]

James Joyner was born on April 23, 1996, in San Jose, California. James' father was a USPS driver upon numerous full time jobs at the time of his birth, and his mother was left to raise him as a single parent before switching roles with his father. Joyner grew up in San Jose though he moved to Chicago, Illinois ,St.Louis, Missouri , then back to San Jose, California several times. Joyner's interest in music began when his mother played Ashanti, Aalyiah, The Notorious B.I.G , and Nas, when Joyner was growing up and it led to him later listening to artists such as T-Pain, Mobb Deep, Eminem, AFI and Lil Wayne. Joyner began rapping after being inspired by Ginuwine.

In June 2017, KNG Smalls released his song, "The Liife" on popular streaming site Soundcloud. "The Liife" went on to amass over a million views. Due to issues with crediting the producer of "The Liife", the producer "Martinez" took action by filing a lawsuit against the rapper, resulting in the deletion of the song. On November 23, 2017, "The Liife" was re-released by the rapper under a new deal with producer "Martinez".

Joyner is of partial Antiguan and Argentine descent.
