KUGR radio is a student run radio station at Washington State University. The station is operated by the Edward R. Murrow College of Communications. KUGR can broken down into a music division and a sports division, with the music side playing primarily rock and roll, and the sports side calling games for Washington State Athletics. A major moment for KUGR came in 1976, when the band Heart performed in KUGR's studio in Pullman.[2] In the early 2000's the station shifted to become a top-40 station, instead of just rock and roll, a decision that would be reversed in 2011, when the moved to their current model. KUGR in recent years has made the move to social media, with their sports division, streaming games live on Youtube after first streaming for a few years on Facebook.
Sports
KUGR Radio carries radio coverage of Washington State University's major sports, including football, Men's and Women's basketball, baseball, soccer, and more.[3] The games are broadcast by KUGR's team of student broadcasters. The Sport department is currently co-lead by Washington State University Marketing and Communications Director, Brandon Chapman, and current student Davis Hagen.[4][5]
