KVPA-FM (101.1 FM, "Blazin' Hip Hop and R&B Hot 101") is a radio station licensed to serve Port Isabel, Texas, United States. The station is owned by Entravision Holdings, LLC.
KVPA-FM broadcasted a Rhythmic Top 40 music format to the Rio Grande Valley from 2001 to 2002.
The station was assigned the KVPA-FM call sign from 1989 to 2003 by the Federal Communications Commission.
Serving a small portion of the Rio Grande Valley due to the small signal that was used to transmit to the airwaves, KVPA-FM was known as "Blazin' Hip and R&B Hot 101" from the beginning of 2001 until early 2002 when it exited formats due to an upcoming rival station KBTQ with the same format and stronger signal surging into the area, this eventually led to KVPA renaming itself "Jose 101.1" and its call letters were changed in 2003 to KNVO.[1]
The brief period of 2001 to 2002 would be the only time a rare occurrence would happen in which the Rio Grande Valley would experience 3 radio stations carrying a combination of a Top 40 format with KBFM, KBTQ, and KVPA-FM all transmitting these formats at that time.
It shares a studio with its sister stations, KFRQ, KKPS, and KVLY, located in McAllen, Texas, while its transmitter is located near Rio Hondo, Texas.
