K Intelligent Technologies
K Intelligent Technologies is a Ugandan information communication technology company that specializes in Internet-related services and products, which include e-commerce, URL Shortener technology, Online Ticketing, software, and hardware. K Intelligent Technologies’s parent company ESolutionsUG is one of the tech companies in Uganda, alongside elevate uganda, Javanet Systems, Ace Digital Avenue and many others.
K Intelligent Technologies was founded on May 12, 2015, by Kiberu Edwin Ronald while he was a student at Makerere University in Uganda. K Intelligent Technologies is ESolutionsUG's largest subsidiary and is a holding company for ESolutionsUG's Internet properties and interests. Kiberu was appointed CEO of K Intelligent Technologies on August 12, 2019.[1].
The company's rapid growth since incorporation has included products and partnerships beyond K Intelligent Technologies's core web designing. It offers services designed for work and productivity (K Intelligent Technologies URL Shortener, Ticket Yo and Delivery Yo [2][3]), Project Manager (Yo Manager), K Cloud (K Intelligent Technologies Drive). The company leads the development of the different Mobile applications in Uganda used by different NGOs like the Youth and adolescent health App developed in 2020 by Antnill foundation.
Statistics show that there is an increase in internet usage in Uganda by 13.92 million users of internet and a percentage of 29.1 by January 2022 compared to the previous years[4]. With the rise in internet usage, very many people have found innovative ways of reaching their clients in different ways. And with a total of 3.40 million users using social media in Uganda with an increase of 900,000 users in the year 2020 - 2021. This increase is approximately 7.3% of the total population of Uganda which means that there is a need to develop more innovative ways to reach the remaining 92.7% people who are not on social media. Very many interventions are being made to reach the remaining 92.7% through USSD and SMS for those people who have no access to internet. Since 42% of Ugandans[5] are connected to internet there is a need to find innovative ways on how we can reach the remaining 58% of the population who have no internet access.
History
K Intelligent Technologies began in February 2014 as a side hustle for Kiberu Edwin Ronald while he was a student at Makerere University in Kampala. The business initially involved his parents, who funded the projects being done, but as the company grew they left him to run the business on his own.
While the internet penetration increased in Uganda, Kiberu decided to develop a multi-service app to allow people transact business this App was called ESolutionsUG App with support from his friend Gerald Kibirige they developed this app to help the community from which they came from(Mutundwe). And in 2020 with the surge of COVID19 in Uganda Kiberu through his company K Intelligent Technologies decided to help NGO's to better serve their community members during the lockdown by developing for them Mobile Apps to access SRHR services, information and also to create a safe space for people mostly those living with HIV in Uganda[6]
Overview
With the increase in lockdown restrictions in Uganda, K Intelligent Technologies decided to introduce the Delivery Yo app[7] to allow the different vendors and community members to easily access goods and services in their community. Like any other global e-commerce platform in Uganda like Jumia, KIKU, and many others, K Intelligent Technologies[8] put more emphasis on community-based trading to allow people to support and grow their communities.
During the lockdown, very many young people found themselves craving for more information and experimenting leading to early child pregnancies this forced several NGOs to come out to address this issue through mobile applications like the Sauti Plus App by Reach a hand Uganda and the Youth & Adolescent health Africa App(YAHA) by Anthill foundation Uganda with collaboration from K Intelligent Technologies[9]
