Kadıköy Armenian Cemetery (Armenian: Գատըգիւղի Գերեզմանատուն), also known as Hasanpaşa Uzunçayır Ermeni Kabristanı, is a historic Armenian cemetery located in Kadıköy district of Istanbul, Turkey.[1] The cemetery shares the burial ground with two other adjacent Christian cemeteries separated by a wall; namely the Kadıköy Roman Catholic Cemetery and the Greek Orthodox cemetery of St. Ignatius.

History and description[edit]

Armenians have owned two cemeteries in Kadıköy throughout history. The old cemetery, located in the center of Kadıköy, was established in 1740 according to the inscription on its gate. Since intramural burials were banned in the city after the cholera epidemic in 1864, this cemetery was expropriated in the 1890s, and a large land was allocated in Uzunçayır as a cemetery, and the old graves in Altıyol were transferred to this new land. The cemetery is still open for burial today.
