Kalita Co., Ltd (株式会社カリタ) is a Japanese coffee equipment maker based in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture. They sell their own brand of products as well as import coffee equipment into Japan.
They have no relation to the similarly-named Mellitta company.
History[edit]
In 1959, the company was founded in Nihonbashi, Tokyo. [1]Riding on the kissaten (喫茶店) boom, the company was able to grow through the sales of their commercial coffee equipment. They opened branches in Nagoya, Osaka, Sapporo,[1] and began selling home-use coffee equipment as well.
In October 11th 2011, they moved their headquarters from Ota Ward, Tokyo to Yokohama, Kanagawa.[1]
In 2019, they celebrated their 60th anniversary and their product the electric kettle KEDP-600, slated for release in 2020, was awarded the Good Design Award.[2][3]

Wave Series[edit]
A series of original coffee drippers and coffee filters that were designed by Kalita. The bottom of the drippers are flat and have three holes, this three-holed design is known as the 「Kalita Style」[1]. They have worked together with the craftsman of Hasami Porcelain[4], Tsubame metalworking[4], and Narumi Corporation[4] to produce products in this series.
