Dr. Kamakoti Veezhinathan is the current Director of the IIT Madras, and a Professor in the Department of Computer Science Engineering, IIT Madras.[1][2] He took over as the Director from Prof. Bhaskar Ramamurthi. Dr. Kamakoti, is credited with leading the efforts for SHAKTI (microprocessor), India's first indigenous RISC-V processor development program.[3]
Dr. Kamakoti previously served as a Head of India's National Taskforce on Artificial Intelligence[4], and is a leading expert on technological consultations.[5] He is a member of the National Security Advisory Board (NSAB)[6], and is routinely appointed on key panels for technological consultations regarding national security.
Apart from being a noted scientist, Dr. Kamakoti has a keen interest in organic farming[7], and actively pursues Carnatic Violin recitation. He is also heading the IIT Madras Music Club as its President.
