Kamakura (festival)

Kamakura is a Japanese festival that is held during the Lunar New Year in Akita, Niigata and other snowy regions of Japan. It has been held since the 16th century, and is dedicated to the god of water.[1]
The snow shelters, protecting the altars, built for the festival are usually also referred to as "Kamakura".
