Kamen Rider Beast (仮面ライダービースト, Kamen Raidā Bīsuto) is a fictional character and secondary protagonist of the 2012-2013 Kamen Rider Series Kamen Rider Wizard. He made his first appearance as a cameo in the film Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider Wizard & Fourze: Movie War Ultimatum and made his television debut in episode 17. Kamen Rider Beast's motif is that of a lion and a chimera.[1]

Kosuke Nito[edit]

Kosuke Nito (仁藤 攻介, Nitō Kōsuke, portrayed by Tasuku Nagase) is young man from the Fukui Prefecture who is rather optimistic, often believing that pinches and chances are sides of the same coin. He has a gigantic appetite and an unusual liking to mayonnaise, putting it on everything he eats, including doughnuts. He originally lived with his grandmother before he became a student archaeologist. During an expedition, Nito found the Beast Driver and broke the seal holding a horde of Ghouls at bay. Forced to become Kamen Rider Beast to defeat the monsters, Nito learns he unknowingly forged a pact with the Phantom Beast Chimera and must now consume other Phantoms for their magical energies to keep the Phantom fed, as if it dies, so will he. Through a misunderstanding as to how Kamen Rider Wizard functions in regards to absorbing and replenishing magical power, he labels Haruto his "eternal rival" when they first meet after Nito was targeted by Manticore on the assumption that he was a Gate. Despite it being possible for Haruto to simply use an Engage Ring to enter Nito's Underworld and destroy Beast Chimera, Nito initially refuses on the grounds that his Phantom would be too strong for Kamen Rider Wizard to handle and the experience would "leave a bad taste." Nito later explains that as an archeologist, he wishes to learn more about the Phantoms, the Beast Driver, and the Wizard Rings, believing he will never make as important a discovery as Beast Chimera again.

When Nito attempts to end the second Sabbath, he is overpowered by Fueki. In risky gambit that could have killed him, Nito broke the Beast Driver to release Beast Chimera so he can devour all of the excess magical energies generated by the Sabbath to negate the ritual. In appreciation, the idea of eating not amusing, Beast Chimera spares Nito's life and frees him from their pact before leaving. Despite being a normal human again, Nito aided Haruto during the final battle. Once the Phantoms are finally defeated, taking Yuzuru as an apprentice, Nito decides to find Beast Chimera to learn more about the ancient Phantom. Nito eventually recaptures Chimera and seals it on the Beast Driver once more, but is forced to transform into Kamen Rider Beast once more to confront the Phantom Ogre and a copy of Koyomi he created using the Hope Ring, despite knowing that without Phantoms to consume, he will be eventually eaten by Chimera. After Ogre is defeated, he is consumed by the Nepenthes Inhumanoid under Kamen Rider Bujin Gaim's orders. Nito is later rescued by Kamen Riders Gaim and Wizard and assists them to defeat Bujin Gaim and in the occasion, learns that he can feed Chimera not only with Phantoms but with fruits from the Helheim Forest as well.

Kamen Rider Beast[edit]

Like Kamen Rider Wizard, Nito is able to become the mystically-powered Kamen Rider Beast, who is also referred to as the "Ancient Wizard" (古の魔法使い, Inishie no Mahōtsukai), by using the Beast Driver. Akin to Kamen Rider Wizard's Styles, Kamen Rider Beast can change to different forms known as Mantles (マント, Manto), which are named after the special cloak-like attachments that gives him powers of different animals. After Nito transforms into Kamen Rider Beast, he originally said "Now, its feeding time!" (さあ、食事の時間だ!, Saa, Shokuji no jikan da!) until adopting the phrases "Now, it's breakfast time! (さあ、ブレクファースタイムだ!, Saa, Burekufāsutaimu da!) during the morning and "Now, it's lunchtime! (さあ、ランチタイムだ!, Saa, Ranchitaimu da!) during afternoon to contrast with Haruto's own "it's showtime." Whenever Beast executes one of his finishers, he says "the Main Dish!" (メインディッシュだ!, Mein disshu da!).[2][3][4]

Falco Mantle[edit]

Falco Mantle (ファルコマント, Faruko Manto) is a form where Kamen Rider Beast is armed with an orange cape with the same name, accessed by the Falco Ring, giving him the ability to fly.[5] When Kamen Rider Beast turns into Falco Mantle, the Beast Driver rhythmically chants "Fa-Fa-Fa-Falco" (ファッファッファッファルコ, Fa-Fa-Fa-Faruko). The Falco Mantle is first used in Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider Wizard & Fourze: Movie War Ultimatum.

Chameleo Mantle[edit]

Chameleo Mantle (カメレオマント, Kamereo Manto) is a form where Kamen Rider Beast is armed with a light green cape with the same name, accessed by the Chameleo Ring, giving him the ability to blend in with the environment and appear invisible to enemies. He is also able to use the coiled tongue ornament on the Mantle's shoulder pauldron as a whip.[6] When Kamen Rider Beast turns into Chameleo Mantle, the Beast Driver chants "ChaCha-Cha-Cha-Chameleo" (カカッカッカッカメレオ, KaKa-Ka-Ka-Kamereo).[2]

Buffa Mantle[edit]

Buffa Mantle (バッファマント, Baffa Manto) is a form where Kamen Rider Beast is armed with a crimson cape with the same name, accessed by the Buffa Ring, allowing him to become stronger and more durable to defend himself from any attack.[7] When Kamen Rider Beast turns into Buffa Mantle, the Beast Driver chants "Bu-Bu-Bububu-Buffa" (バッバッババババッファ, Ba-Ba-Bababa-Baffa).[2]

Dolphi Mantle[edit]

Dolphi Mantle (ドルフィマント, Dorufi Manto) is a form where Kamen Rider Beast is armed with a purple cape with the same name, accessed by using the Dolphi Ring, giving him the ability to swim at high speeds and use healing spells.[8] When Kamen Rider Beast turns into Dolphi Mantle, the Beast Driver chants "Do-Do-Do-Do-Dolphi" (ドドドドドルフィ, Do-Do-Do-Do-Dorufi).[2]

Beast Hyper[edit]

Kamen Rider Beast Hyper (仮面ライダービーストハイパー, Kamen Raidā Bīsuto Haipā) is Kamen Rider Beast's gold, blue, and red powered-up form accessed by the Hyper Ring. In this form he becomes one with Beast Chimera, which allows him to summon the Mirage Magnum, and also gives him tassles which can be extended as a weapon. In this form he is quicker on his feet and prefers ranged combat. When Kamen Rider Beast transforms into Beast Hyper, the Beast Driver chants "Hy-Hy-Hy-Hyper" (ハイッハイッハイッハイパー, Hai-Hai-Hai-Haipā).[9][10]

Wizard Style[edit]

Wizard Style (ウィザードスタイル, Wizādo Sutairu) is a special form accessed by using Kamen Rider Wizard's Land Dragon Ring, appearing in the Showtime with the Dance Ring Hyper Battle DVD. As Wizard Style, Kamen Rider Beast dons the Land Overcoat (ランドオーバーコート, Rando Ōbākōto) and is armed with the Drago Hell Claws (ドラゴヘルクロー, Dorago Heru Kurō). Its finishing move is the Dragon Beast Torn (ドラゴンビーストトーン, Doragon Bīsuto Tōn), which involves Beast charging at an enemy before going through a Magical Portal that forms WizarDragon to destroy the Phantom.[11]

Equipment[edit]

Beast Driver[edit]

The Beast Driver (ビーストドライバー, Bīsuto Doraibā) is a mystical device which allows Nito to unlock the powers of the Wizard Rings, allowing him to transform into Kamen Rider Beast or perform various magical feats. By wearing a Transformation Ring on the left hand and setting it on the left Ring Slot (リングスロット, Ringu Surotto) then turning it, the Revelations Door (レベレイションズドア, Rebereishonzu Doa) on the belt opens to reveal the Chimera Author (キマイラオーサー, Kimaira Ōsā) and Nito transforms into Kamen Rider Beast. When transforming into Kamen Rider Beast, the Beast Driver spells and announces "Open! L-I-O-N, Lion" (オープン!L-I-O-N ライオン, Ōpun! Eru-Ai-Ō-Enu Raion), it can only be done by twisting the ring while on the left Ring Slot, otherwise the Beast Driver will say "No...." By setting it once more, it will activate a Kick Strike (キックストライク, Kikku Sutoraiku) finisher. By using the right Ring Slot, Kamen Rider Beast can use a Magic Ring worn on his right hand to initiate one of his many magical spells or initiate a Mantle Change. The Beast Driver announces Go! (ゴー!, Gō!) whenever magical power is invoked. The Beast Driver is also able to consume defeated Phantoms through the Chimaera Author, allowing Nito to replenish magical power.[12] When not transformed, the Beast Driver appears as an ordinary belt with a closed gate-shaped buckle. Unlike the Wizardriver, which can utilize any Magic Ring in its inactive state, the Beast Driver must be active to use any ring other than Driver On. Nito can cancel his transformation by closing the Revelations Door. At the end of the series, the Beast Driver is broken when Nito stabs it with the Hamel Cane, but later restored after Nito recaptures Beast Chimera.

Wizard Rings[edit]

Like Kamen Rider Wizard, many magical powers of Kamen Rider Beast are accessed through the use of Wizard Rings (ウィザードリング, Wizādo Ringu). Transformation Rings (変身リング, Henshin Ringu) are worn on Nito's left hand, while the Magic Rings (魔法リング, Mahō Ringu) are worn on his right. Also like Kamen Rider Wizard, Kamen Rider Beast (and by extension, Nito himself) has a limited amount of magical power with which to cast spells and sustain transformation. Nito's magical power can only be replenished by consuming the magical power of defeated Phantoms, needing to consume a steady amount of magical power to survive. While he can use his own Wizard Rings, Nito is unable to use Haruto's Wizard Rings as they do not fit in his Beast Driver. However, Haruto is able to use Nito's Wizard Rings with the Wizardriver, which has its own set of effects. When scanned on the Wizardriver, his rings will announce "Beast" (ビースト, Bīsuto) instead of their actual names.

Transformation Rings
  • Beast (ビースト, Bīsuto): Transforms Nito into Kamen Rider Beast, and when used while transformed, allows him to perform his Rider Kick.
Magic Rings
  • Driver On (ドライバーオン, Doraibā On): Changes an ordinary belt into the Beast Driver. Unlike the rest of Kamen Rider Beast's rings, Driver On is scanned over the Beast Driver's buckle rather than inserted into a Ring Slot.
  • Falco (ファルコ, Faruko): Equips Kamen Rider Beast with the Falco Mantle. When used with the Wizardriver, it enables the wearer to scatter himself into a bunch of feathers to evade attacks.
  • Chameleo (カメレオ, Kamereo): Equips Kamen Rider Beast with the Chameleo Mantle. Can also be used outside of Rider form to turn Nito invisible.
  • Buffa (バッファ, Baffa): Equips Kamen Rider Beast with the Buffa Mantle.
  • Dolphi (ドルフィ, Dorufi): Equips Kamen Rider Beast with the Dolphi Mantle. When used with the Wizardriver, it enables the wearer to dive into the ground as if it were water and move like a dolphin.
  • Hyper (ハイパー, Haipā): Found by an archeologist named Osamu Nakamoto in some ancient ruins, transforms Kamen Rider Beast into Kamen Rider Beast Hyper. Its jaw can be opened up to use with the Mirage Magnum and initiate the Magnum Strike.
  • Chimerise (キマイライズ, Kimairaisu): Summons Beast Chimera.
  • Engage (エンゲージ, Engēji): Allows the Beast Driver's wearer to enter the Gate's Underworld. Once the Phantom in the Gate has been destroyed, it will create a portal for Kamen Rider Beast to exit the Underworld.
  • Griffon (グリフォン, Gurifon): Summons the Green Griffon Plamonster.

Dice Saber[edit]

The Dice Saber (ダイスサーベル, Daisu Sāberu) is Kamen Rider Beast's personal rapier-like weapon with a die on the handle, called the Beast Dice (ビーストダイス, Bīsuto Daisu). By spinning the die and scanning the ring which corresponds to the current Mantle form Kamen Rider Beast is in, the Saber will activate a Saber Strike (セイバーストライク, Seibā Sutoraiku) finisher based on that Mantle. Regardless of the Mantle being worn, a successful Saber Strike will summon a number of energy-based animal spirits which attack a target. The attack's effectiveness typically depends on the number the die lands on, with six being the strongest and one being the weakest. However, Kamen Rider Beast is capable of turning a roll of one into a powerful attack by making the spirit grow to an immense size with force of will.[13]

  • Falco Mantle: Releases a number of energy-based falcons that shred the target.
  • Chameleo Mantle: Releases a number of energy-based chameleons that lash their tongues at the target.
  • Buffa Mantle: Releases a number of energy-based buffaloes that ram the target.
  • Dolphi Mantle: Releases a number of energy-based dolphins that bash the target.
  • Beast Hyper: Releases a number of groups of energy-based falcons, chameleons, buffaloes, and dolphins that rush the target.

Mirage Magnum[edit]

The Mirage Magnum (ミラージュマグナム, Mirāju Magunamu) is Kamen Rider Beast Hyper's firearm weapon of choice, found in some ancient ruins along with the Hyper Ring. By opening up the mouth of the lion on the Hyper Ring and setting it on the Ring Slot, Beast Chimera's face appears on the Mirage Specter (ミラージュスペクター, Mirāju Supekutā) and will initiate the Magnum Strike (マグナムストライク, Magunamu Sutoraiku) finisher called the Shooting Mirage (シューティングミラージュ, Shūtingu Mirāju). Kosuke also has a separate Mirage Specter prior to receiving Hyper, and both his and the magnum's Mirage Specter on the Mirage Magnum can also be used in the same vein as Koyomi's crystal ball and can view what Green Griffon can see.[14]

Beast Chimera[edit]

Beast Chimera (ビーストキマイラ, Bīsuto Kimaira, voiced by Tomomichi Nishimura), or simply Chimera (キマイラ, Kimaira), is an ancient cannibalistic Phantom that resembles a giant golden lion in armor in the form of four animals: a falcon (right shoulder), a chameleon (tail) a dolphin (left shoulder), and a buffalo (torso). Beast Chimera was sealed within the Beast Driver for many years before Nito discovered it. Forging a pact with Nito and taking residence in the youth's Underworld, Beast Chimera uses the human to gather him Phantoms to feed on. But the pact ended when Nito broke the Beast Driver so Beast Chimera can feed on the magical energy to disrupt the second Sabbath, with the Phantom taking his leave soon after. Beast Chimera's finisher is the Biting End (バイティングエンド, Baitingu Endo).[2][15] When the Beast Driver scans the Chimerise Ring, it chants "Come on out, come on out, eat 'em all in the way!". Later Nito learns that Chimera can be fed with fruits from the Helheim Forest as well, using them to prevent it from consuming him after their pact was renewed.

Plamonsters[edit]

The Plamonsters (プラモンスター, Puramonsutā) are familiars created from plastic models that are given tentative life through the use of the Wizard Rings.

  • Green Griffon (グリーングリフォン, Gurīn Gurifon): Capable of flight, Green Griffon is used to perform aerial reconnaissance and can combine with Haruto's Plamonsters to become stronger.[16]
