History[edit]

1970[edit]

Kanika's journey of faith & blessing started with Mr Goey Mee Pheng a.k.a Goh Ee Lik (father of Mr Philip Goey), who had the idea of starting the frozen food business while he was handling seafood as a fishmonger with the stall name of Hai Seng Huat Hup Kee Fishery in the lowly Selayang Wholesale Wet Market (Malay: Selayang Pasar Borong) since the 70's.

In the 1980s, when the local Surimi, fish paste technology was not mature in Malaysia. Mr Goey Mee Pheng took the opportunity to bring in the high-tech machine-processed Surimi from Thailand to become the first sole distributor in Malaysia and manage the business alongside his family.

1991[edit]

Mr Goey Mee Pheng foresaw the growing demand for frozen food in the nation so he decided to invest more resources and officially established HSH Frozen Food Private Limited (Malay: HSH Frozen Food Sdn Bhd), the starting factory was located at Batu Caves,Selangor.

Mr Goey Mee Pheng ensures the quality of all Surimi products is consistent with good quality ingredients used as raw materials while maintaining stable pricing for the continuous growth of the business.

1996[edit]

The company's first house brand Kanika was born with the goal of becoming a leading brand in innovative food that focuses on delivering premium quality and second-generation leadership was in transition by Mr Philip Goey and Ms Vinnie Ang. Branding took place as the new leaders of the company envisioned that the branding of the company could bring the business to further expansion.[3]

2007-2015[edit]

The company expanded and shifted to the new factory office along with a 1000 metric ton sub-warehouse in Selayang and also owned a new warehouse of 5000 metric ton capacity, totalling up to 6000 metric ton capacity of fully-equipped cold storage[4]. The company's in-house cold chain logistics fleet was set up with 21 frozen trucks. Expanded frozen storage caters to more variety of product ranges and assurance of product quality for the customers.
