Kanupriya (1 January 1972 – 30 April 2021) was an Indian anchor, actress, voice-over artist, script-writer, theatre artist, and media personality.[1] She had hosted Brahma Kumaris program. She then worked in the field of acting, script writing and theatre for three decades. She then joined the most watched show 'Awakening with Brahma Kumaris' as an anchor. Kanupriya was so loved by the people that when she left the show and joined the 'Karmabhoomi' show, the audience of 'Awakening with Brahma Kumaris' was also affected.[2][3]

Career[edit]

She was TV anchor and started her career as an anchor from Doordarshan.[4] She started her journey as an actor and acted in over 80 serials and 50 telefilms, including-

  • Tumhara Intezar Hai

  • Ranjishen
  • Ab Aur Nahi

In 2005, she established 'Gul Guncha Art' media company which mainly worked on creating issue based documentaries, short films, and shows. She then moved on to hosting Internationally acclaimed spiritual series Awakening with Brahma Kumaris-

  • Sai Ki Mahima
  • Mann Ki Baat

In 2011, she revived her media company Gul Guncha Arts and produced talk shows and semi-fiction series Itz My Life (on NDTV Imagine), Call Mitra- The Helpline Show (on News24), and New Age Parenting (on Headlines Today). Since 2015, she ventured back into fiction, Writing, Directing, and Producing shows-

  • Karmbhoomi Youth Series (Bindass Channel)
  • The Desi K's (20 million views on YouTube)
  • Ardhsatya- Jeevan Ke Rahasya (for the OTT platform Watcho).

Death[edit]

She died after testing positive for COVID-19.[5] Kanupriya's demise was reported by Bk Shivani through social media. Kanupriya had shared a post on social media two days ago saying that 'she is hospitalized and needs prayers'. According to reports, she died due to low oxygen level and rising fever.[6][7][8]
