Karabo Moroka (formerly Sithole, Majozi, Mogale and Dlomo) was a character on South African soap opera Generations that is broadcast daily weekdays on SABC 1. The character was portrayed by actress Connie Masilo-Ferguson since inception in 1993.

Early episodes[edit]

Born into the rich and influential Morokas as the daughter of Paul Moroka, the patriarch of the advertising media firm, New Horizons and sister to Archie and Busang, half-sister to Zakes, Karabo, the only female Moroka at the time, did not have a mother figure whilst growing up. While trying to find her self, she became something of a rebel, dating men her brother and father didn't approve of, including early show villain Max Naidoo, who held a grudge against the Morokas and was hell bent on destroying them. He becomes Karabo’s boyfriend and cocaine pusher. She has always presented the façade of being calm and in control. All the men in her life have often see her as a "beauty with no brains", a myth she has since disproved in the show’s ten year run, as she now owns the biggest communications firm Ezweni which she jointly manages with ex-husband Tau Mogale and Busi Dlomo. She has been married four times, first to Mandla Sithole, a medical Doctor who was possessive and jealous of her every move, a trait that later destroyed their marriage after he drugged her and she ended up in a comma. It was later discovered that he had a tumor that caused him to act that way. Her marriage to the lovely doctor, who was also her eye surgeon, started off as more a case of dependency than love, after she was blinded by a chemical put in her eye drops by Ingid Majozi, ex-wife to her one time fiancée Glen Majozi, whose wedding to him did take place because she received news of Archie’s death in a plane crash right before the nuptials. Glen also cheated on Karabo with Kgomotso, her best friend and later on step mother who has since moved to Ivory Coast and married a man that abuses her constantly. Since then she married Kaya Motene, Tau and most recently Sibusiso Dlomo, who she has since divorced so as to allow him pursue his long term love interest, Ntombi Khumalo. In the entire series run she has lost 2 children, and all her siblings were killed off by Max Naidoo. She is currently embroiled in a custody battle for an orphaned child that she wants to adopt. Fans often wonder whether she will ever be truly happy.

While Karabo's love life is somewhat of a mess, she has managed to prove her worth in the business world. After assuming the position of CEO of New Horizons Karabo became a force to be reckoned with, constantly at the mercy of then arch rival Sibusiso Dlomo (played by Menzi Ngunbane) but always triumphant in the end. When New Horizons merges with rival company Isis Adversting (still operating as new Horizons) Sibusiso accepts that perhaps he did underestimate the heiress. But trouble starts when the company faces a huge financial obstacle – the imminent threat that the Moroka dynasty would be no more. Karabo then seeks the assistance of businessman Khaya Motoene, who eventually salvages the company while falling in love with her. The two start a romance, but it is short-lived after Karabo's secret (that she is pregnant with an ex-husband's baby) surfaces.

The rivalry between Sibusiso and Karabo is invigorated after Sibuso makes his intentions known - he wants to take control of New Horizons at any cost. This time Karabo seeks the assistance of a Cape Town based businesswoman Busisiwe Dlomo, Sibusiso's own sister. The two conjure up a plan that would leave Sibusiso in awe. A merger between New Horizons and Busi's company Ezweni Communications. This of course opened the playground to more story lines as the focus of the company would include more than mere advertising.

At Busi's insistence Karabo was appointed CEO yet again, again putting her at the mercy of Sibusiso who was now hell bent on destroying both Karabo and Busi. After losing his own company, Afri-Media to ruthless Kenneth Mashaba. Sibusiso was invited to join forces with the ladies of Ezweni, which now included investigative journalist Ntombi Khumalo (played by Sonia Mbele). Consequently Karabo remained CEO, Ntombi head of editorial, Sibusiso managing director and Busi MD of New Horizons (now a division of Ezweni). The fierce rivalry between Ezweni and Mashaba Media (formerly Afri-media) is a draw card in the series.

Intrigues[edit]

Many argue that the reason many people tune in to watch the show is to find out if Miss Karabo Moroka will ever find true love? She has had many loves in her life; notorious drug dealer Max Naidoo, advertising executive Glen Majozi, Maqubela Simpiwe, businessmen Khaya Motoene and Tau Mogale and, psychiatrist Mandla Sithole and of late Sibusiso Dlomo. Many believes that the heiress is indeed cursed when it comes to love because every man Karabo falls in love with ends up dead! This excludes Sibusiso of course, as his accomplished acting would be a loss to the show.

Her first "love" was Max Naidoo, the man who claimed to love her but also supplied her with her daily dosage of cocaine, a habit retained from her former modelling days. After Karabo goes blind, due to his pose.
