Karanvir Malhotra is an Indian actor, known for his roles in Selection Day[1] and The Forgotten Army - Azaadi ke Liye [2].

Early Life & Family[edit]

Karanvir Malhotra was born on 4th October 1995, in New Delhi, India. He did half his schooling from The Air Force School, Subroto Park and the rest from Delhi Public School, Dwarka where his mother used to teach Social Studies. His father had a business in Freight Forwarding before his family migrated to Melbourne, Australia. Post that he spent most of his childhood with his maternal grand parents. His maternal Grand father retired as a Lt. col in the Army and later became a lawyer. He has had a huge influence on him and his younger brother. Post his schooling Karanvir enrolled in Christ college, Bangalore. After a few weeks of being there he got to know about the ECA (Extra curricular activity) trials in theatre which gave him an opportunity to get into a prestigious college in DU. That’s when he started understanding his interest and curiosity about acting and theatre. Later he pursued bachelor in commerce honors at Sri Venkateswara college, DU. After completing half his undergrad from DU he moved to Melbourne, Australia where his family had already relocated.

Career[edit]

Karanvir started working in Melbourne at the Indian Film Festival Melbourne and Mind blowing films (run by Mitu Bhowmick Lange). He simultaneously started learning and pursuing theatre and was a part of shows that were performed at Melbourne’s oldest independent theatre Venue La Mama theatre, Melbourne Fringe Festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival, Short + sweet theatre festival etc. He later played the character of Paris in ‘Romeo and Juliet’ produced by The Australian Shakespeare Company. Professionally, he the faced the camera for the first time when he did a Cadbury Commercial in 2016 directed by Vinnil Mathew. He went to Delhi in 2017 to attend a 5 day workshop at the National School of Drama and coincidentally around the same time, Tess Joseph was auditioning for Guy Ritchi’e Alaadin. He auditioned for that but didn’t get the part. However, Tess liked his audition and recommended him for an independent film for which he was flown to Mumbai. The film is in post production and will release soon. He thought he would go back to Melbourne after shooting the film but he subsequently auditioned for The Forgotten Army and got the part. When he was about to finish shoot for that, Tess Joseph saw him at a restaurant and told him to audition for Javed’s character in Selection Day, Originally a book written by Arvind Adiga. It was produced by Anil Kapoor Films and Seven story’s media, London.
