Karim Allana is a sustainable building construction expert with more than 40 years of construction industry experience. He is the current CEO of Allana Buick & Bers (ABB).

Licensure and Specialties[edit]

Mr. Allana is licensed to work as an engineer in seven states:

Since the early 1980s, he has worked on hundreds of construction sites and provided consulting services on well over 1,000 projects and investigations. Since 1987, ABB has led dozens of major remedial and new-build construction projects in North America. worked on dozens of major new and remedial construction projects across the United States.

He personally specializes in building enclosure disciplines, including roofing, waterproofing, and exterior façade.

Early Life and Career[edit]

While earning his Civil Engineering degree at Santa Clara University, Mr. Allana got his first job in the construction industry as a general laborer with Precision Roofing, a San Jose-based roofing company.

After graduating, he was recruited by Turner Construction Company to work on ground-up new construction projects. He returned to Precision Roofing as an operations manager before starting his own company in 1987.

Current Role (Allana Buick & Bers)[edit]

As CEO of Allana Buick & Bers, Mr. Allana is responsible for new construction projects with approximately $6 billion annually and remedial construction work worth approximately $120 million annually.

His duties include overseeing the strategic direction of ABB, setting strategy in consultation with department and discipline heads, and providing day-to-day support for about 225 employees. ABB works with clients in sectors including education (both K-12 and higher education), multi-family residential, healthcare, insurance, industrial, and local and federal government.

During Mr. Allana’s time as CEO of ABB, the company has earned multiple Zweig White honors as the “best firm to work for” and two IIBEC “documented excellence” awards.

Construction Services[edit]

Mr. Allana remains closely involved in all aspects of new and remedial construction work at ABB. He personally supervises the firm’s design build activities, engineering design work, condition assessments, energy efficiency retrofits, renewable energy system upgrades, and remedial construction projects. He and his team provide detailed guidance on building systems and engineering matters while providing complex project management and conflict resolution support.

Consulting Work[edit]

Mr. Allana has served as an expert witness in nearly 1,000 construction defect cases, many of which involved forensic investigations of building failures. He is also a prolific construction and engineering educator who provides customized technical presentations and seminars for engineers, architects, and trades workers on topics such as building performance improvement, energy efficiency upgrades, and construction risk reduction.

Professional Credentials[edit]

Mr. Allana belongs to several professional societies and associations for construction and engineering professionals. Current memberships include the Community Associations Institute (CAI), the International Facility Management Association (IFMA), the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA), the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC), and the International Code Council (ICC).

Karim Allana is a Registered Roof Consultant and a Registered Waterproofing Consultant. He lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.
