Karl-Adam Bonnier (born September 5, 1934 in Stockholm) is a Swedish entrepreneur, economist and founder of the Karl-Adam Bonnier Foundation.[1]

Early life

Karl-Adam Bonnier was born in Sweden but moved to the United States at a young age. He completed US military service and studied business administration at Stanford University (MBA). He returned to Sweden in 1962.

Career

Karl-Adam Bonnier is a financial entrepreneur. He built up the companies Aktieköp and Aktieinvest, the latter offering the public the opportunity to buy shares in thousands of companies for the first time. He also started the companies Independent Leasing and Independent Factoring in 1968. Independent Leasing eventually became the Nordic region's largest leasing company and was listed on the stock exchange in 1976.

During his business career, Bonnier was chairman of the board of AB Programator (1964-80), Independent Leasing (1969-80), B&B Invest (1986-87). Bonnier has not been employed within the Bonnier family's media group, Bonnier Group, but in the 90s he served as a board member of Dagens Nyheter, Expressen, Bonnier AB and currently serves on the Bonnier family's foundation for media research at Stockholm School of Economics and as an honorary member of the family's Family Council.

In 1986, Bonnier founded the Karl-Adam Bonnier Foundation, an independent, non-partisan organization with the purpose of contributing to business development in Sweden.

Academic Career

Bonnier received a doctoral dissertation in financial economics in 1986 at the University of Virginia's Graduate School of Business (Darden). In 1992, Bonnier returned to Sweden where he conducted research on CEO salaries in large Swedish companies. The research resulted in the publications Executive Compensation and Public Indignation [2] and Conjectures and Evidence on the Mechanisms that drive CEO Pay [3], as well as debate articles and lectures.
