Karwan Jamal Tahir is Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) High Representative to the United Kingdom. He has previously served as the Deputy Minister at the Department of Foreign Relations [1] where he has promoted the Kurdistan region’s relations with the international community on political and cultural levels through his engagements in numerous conferences around the world.

Tahir was born in the city of Sulaimani on 11th January 1971. Tahir followed in the footsteps of his father by entering the world of politics. He joined the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) in 1991, becoming a member of His Excellency Jalal Talabani's Special Bureau[2]. He continued to work in several departments within the PUK. In 1998, he travelled to the United Kingdom for his undergraduate studies. On July 2003, he completed his BSc in Computer Science and Management at the University of Manchester Science and Technology (UMIST).

From 2005-2007 he served as an Advisor at the Council of Ministers and a Senior Advisor at the KRG’s Ministry of Natural Resources. He played a pivotal role in the Ministry of Natural Resources’ strategic plans and relations with the IOCs. In addition, he also led three Management Committees, while also participating as a member in many more committees.

The main duties of the KRG High Representative [3] are protecting the interests of the KRG and the people of Kurdistan, further developing KRG-UK bilateral ties, as well as advocating his government’s position on a range of matters including, political, security, cultural, economic, and humanitarian.

Tahir is married with two children, a boy and a girl.
