Kasai Rex
The kasai rex is a theropodus cryptid, allegedly found in the Kasai Valley, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Description
The initail sighting described the kasai rex as being red-colored theropod with a similar appearance to the Tyrannosaurus Rex.[1]
However, descriptions of the creature have been reported to conflict each other, and the original sightings of the kasai rex have been deemed unreliable by cryptozoologists.[1]
Initial sighting
In 1932, Swedish plantation owner J. C. Johanson[2] was aiming to hunt an elephant while in the Congo, so Johanson and his servant left their cabin in Cape Town and travelled to a desolate savanna and found two elephants.
However, he noted something was off, as there were only two elephants, and not an entire herd. Then, out of the blue, a large unknown creature attacked the elephants. Johsnson's servant ran away, while Johanson (himself) aimed his shotgun and shot the creature 22 times. When they entered back into the swamp, they walked through to get to the elephants, Johanson and his servant heard a splash. Thinking it was a crocodile, Johsnson looked around to see where it was. But to his horror, it wasn't a crocodile but the same creature eating a rhinoceros it had killed. Johanson's servant ran away, while Johanson himself was going to try and kill it again. However, Johanson then opted to run off too after realising his servant had run off with his shotgun.
When Johanson returned the camp, he collapsed while holding his camera, and the men at the camp picked him up and took him in. In an interview with the Rhodesia Herald (now known as The Herald), he described the creature as "reddish in color" and with "blackish-colored stripes". This had been the only report of the kasai rex by the Rhodesia Herald.
Photographed sightings
There had been numerous alleged photographed sightings of the kasai rex, however a lot of these photos have been proven to be hoaxes.[2]
The most notable example of these hoax photos is a superimposed photo of a monitor lizard over a dead hippopotamus.[3]
Even one of J. C. Johanson's photos has been proven to be a hoax.[2]
