Kashindra Sharma (Nepali: काशिन्द्र शर्मा; born 16 January 1991) is a leading Nepali journalist, media entrepreneur, crime reporter, and social reformer based in Janakpur, Madhesh Province. As the visionary founder and chairman of Trinetra News Network Private Limited and editor-in-chief of the influential digital platform News Bureau Nepal, Sharma has redefined investigative journalism in the Terai-Madhesh region with fearless coverage of press freedom, corruption, migrant rights, and social justice.[2]
His dowry-free wedding on 8 February 2025 became a national symbol of social reform, widely praised in Nepali media as a progressive milestone and model for modern equality.[3][4]
Early life and education
Born on 16 January 1991 (2 Magh 2047 BS) in Machi Jhitkaiya-1, Dhanusha District, to Shree Ram Sagar Thakur and Shrimati Kavilash Devi Thakur, Sharma grew up immersed in the rich cultural tapestry of Madhesh. His early exposure to local issues ignited a lifelong commitment to truth and transparency.[5]

Career
Sharma began his journalism career in 2011 as a local reporter in Janakpur, gaining recognition for ground-level coverage of social and political issues.[8] By 2015, he expanded into television, reporting on major cultural-political events.[9]
In December 2017, he founded Trinetra News Network Pvt. Ltd. and launched News Bureau Nepal — now a digital platform registered with the Press Council Nepal and leading investigative journalism in Madhesh.[10]
Landmark Investigations
- 2018 – Broke the story of Umesh Yadav, a Dhanusha District resident imprisoned in Saudi Arabia for 12 years on murder charges. Sharma's reporting via News Bureau Nepal sparked national outrage, diplomatic intervention, and a campaign led by activist Saroj Ray. The case involved blood money negotiations and eventual clemency efforts.[11][12]

On 07 Jestha 2074 (May 21, 2017), during the 18th anniversary of Janakpur Today, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal presented Sharma with the Today Talent Award alongside other journalists, recognizing his rising influence in Madhesh media.[16]

Personal life
On 8 February 2025, Sharma married Sulam Sharma in a dowry-free ceremony rooted in Hindu tradition, taking seven sacred vows. Despite pressure, he accepted minimal gifts (fridge, bed, sofa) but rejected cash or dowry. The wedding cost ~₹5 lakh and was hailed as a model against dowry culture in Madhesh.[17][18]
Sharma contributes to digital innovation beyond journalism. He assisted in translating the popular Hamro Patro app into Maithili language, expanding its reach in Madhesh.[19]
