Kasie Whitener is an American educator, author, entrepreneur, radio host, and politician from Blythewood, South Carolina. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor[1] at the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina, where she teaches entrepreneurship and strategic management and served as Director of the Faber Entrepreneurship Center.[2] In 2026, she won the Libertarian Party nomination for U.S. Senate in South Carolina at the party's nominating convention,[3] and is a candidate in the 2026 general election.

Early life and education

Whitener is a native of Florence, South Carolina who grew up in Herndon, Virginia. She returned to South Carolina when she enrolled at Clemson University in 1995, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1999. She later earned a Master of Arts in English from Winthrop University in 2004, and a PhD in Organization and Management in 2014.

Career

Academia

Whitener joined the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina in 2017. She serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor teaching entrepreneurship and strategic management, and as Director of the Faber Entrepreneurship Center. She also hosts Moore Impact, the Darla Moore School of Business's live radio show and podcast.[4]

Entrepreneurship

After relocating to Blythewood, South Carolina in 2012, Whitener founded Clemson Road Creative,[5] a consultancy specializing in business processes including documentation, methodology, and remote work modalities. She co-founded the Women's Business Center[6] at Columbia College in 2018 and led 1 Million Cups Columbia[7] for two years. She has also served as a reviewer for the SC Arts Commission Artist Venture Grant.

Writing

Whitener began writing in middle school. Her debut novel, After December (Chrysalis Press, 2019), was a finalist for the 14th Annual National Indie Excellence Awards.[8] Her second novel, Before Pittsburgh (Chrysalis Press, 2021), earned Honorable Mention at the New York Book Festival[9] and the Hollywood Book Festival.[10] Both works are set in the Generation X era of the 1990s and early 2000s and deal with themes of grief, friendship, and recovery.

In 2021, she was honored by South Carolina Humanities with the Governor's Award Fresh Voices in the Humanities[11] for her work hosting the weekly radio show Write On SC[12] and her service as President of the South Carolina Writers Association.[13]

In addition to her fiction writing, Whitener authored Practical Entrepreneurism (Great River Learning, 2021) and co-authored Redesign Work Volume 1: A Beginner's Guide to Autonomy (Clemson Road Publishing, 2020).

Radio

Whitener is the co-host of Mornings with Kasie and Kev on 100.7 The Point.[14] She also hosts Write On SC, a weekly radio show and podcast focused on the craft and business of writing, which received an Artist Venture Grant from the South Carolina Arts Commission in 2019.[citation needed]

Political career

Whitener is an active member of the South Carolina Libertarian Party (SCLP), having served two terms as Richland County Chairperson and as Vice Chair[15] before being elected Chair of the SCLP State Committee.[16][17]

2026 U.S. Senate campaign

Whitener announced her candidacy for the 2026 U.S. Senate election in South Carolina as the Libertarian Party nominee.[18] Her campaign platform emphasizes political independence and bipartisan cooperation, arguing that the structural advantages afforded to major-party candidates are a primary obstacle to representative government.

On the subject of congressional term limits, Whitener has stated that while concerns about career incumbents are valid, term limits are not the appropriate remedy, citing their history of constitutional challenges and the difficulty of passing such legislation through sitting legislators. She has instead advocated for election reform measures including campaign finance restrictions limiting contributions to a candidate's home district, and ranked-choice voting.[19]
