Kate Lord Brown (born 1971) is a British author of historical fiction including The Beauty Chorus, The Perfume Garden, and The House of Dreams.

Early life and education

Lord Brown grew up in Devon, UK, and studied at St Margaret's, Exeter, before gaining a fine art scholarship to Blundell's. She went on to study Philosophy at Durham University, art history at the Courtauld Institute of Art and gained a MA from the Manchester Writing School at the Manchester Metropolitan University. She was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Society of Arts following her work as an international art consultant, curating collections throughout the world. While working full time in London she wrote two unpublished novels before she was picked as a finalist in ITV's The People's Author contest, and the publication of The Beauty Chorus.

Career

The Perfume Garden was shortlisted by the Romantic Novelists Association for 2014 UK Romantic Novel of the Year[1] and she was a regional winner in the BBC 2020 International Radio Playwriting Competition[2]. Lord Brown's novels have been translated into many languages, and have been top ten bestsellers in the US/Canada, UK, Germany, Norway and Spain. Lord Brown wrote the first ever book club column in the Middle East for two years, and has published journalism for the Daily Telegraph, Good Housekeeping and Conde Nast Traveler on everything from writing and expat life, to Arab horses, perfume and Japanese festivals.
