Kate Nichols (actress)
Kate Nichols (born Plamena Nikolaeva Bozhilova, August 3, 1985) is a Bulgarian actress known for her work in international film, television, and theatre. She is known for her roles in The Piper, Subservience, Cleaner, Red Sonja, and the Bulgarian comedy series Daddies, appearing opposite actors such as Megan Fox, Daisy Ridley, Mickey Rourke, Charlotte Hope, and Julian Sands in productions filmed across Europe and the United States.[1]
Early life and education
Nichols was born in Varna, Bulgaria. She was educated at Roedean School in Brighton, a leading independent school for girls, before continuing her professional training at the Drama Centre London. She also studied at Shakespeare's Globe in London and the Vakhtangov Institute in Moscow. Nichols is fluent in Bulgarian and English, and also speaks Spanish and French.
Career
Nichols began her career on stage, performing in both classical and contemporary theatre. Her early performances included The Seagull (as Nina) in Moscow, Cymbeline (as Imogen) at Shakespeare’s Globe in London, A Doll’s House(as Nora), Pentecost (as Yasmin) performed at a church venue in Shoreditch, London, and The Odyssey, in which she played Penelope during a world tour with Drama Theatre Plovdiv in Greece, Hungary, and Bulgaria.
Her screen work includes both European and American productions. Notable film credits include Subservience(supporting role opposite Megan Fox), Cleaner (opposite Daisy Ridley), The Piper (as Nancy, opposite Charlotte Hopeand Julian Sands, directed by Erling Thorbjørn), Barbarian, Memory, Dyad, Red Sonja (directed by M. J. Bassett), Devil’s Play (formerly The Wheels of Heaven, opposite Mickey Rourke), and Debris Escombros (also known as Convergence), an award-winning short film recognized at several international festivals.
Nichols continues to work internationally in both European and American cinema, with several feature films currently in production and post-production.
On television, Nichols has appeared in Pandora (The CW, USA), Plebs (ITV, UK), and in Bulgaria she is widely known for her long-running role as Gala in the BTV comedy series Татковци (Daddies). She has also appeared in Hallmark productions including A Paris Proposal, An American in Austen, and The Royal We.
Awards and recognition
Nichols’s performance in Debris Escombros earned international recognition when the film won Best International Short Film at both the HollyShorts Film Festival in Los Angeles and the Manchester International Film Festival. The film was also officially selected at the LA Film Festival and the Denver Film Festival. A feature article about the Manchester International Film Festival highlighted Debris Escombros among its award winners in print and online media coverage.[2] [3]

Between 2021 and 2025, Nichols appeared in several television interviews on BTV’s Преди обед (Predi obed) morning show, discussing her international film work and acting career.[4]She has also been interviewed by Space Jockey Reviews regarding her film work in Los Angeles,[5] and by journalist Maria Valdobreva for KinoSpirka, a Bulgarian film publication.[6][7]Nichols has additionally been featured in Bulgarian press and festival publications related to her film work and awards.
