Kate Schroder (born 1976 or 1977) is an American politician from the state of Ohio. She is the Democratic nominee for Ohio's 1st congressional district in the 2020 elections.

Early life and career

Schroder was raised in Pleasant Ridge, Cincinnati, Ohio.[2] She graduated from Ursuline Academy, where she served as student body president. Schroder attended Indiana University Bloomington, where she was elected treasurer in the student government. She earned her bachelor's degree in 1999.[3] After graduating, Schroder worked for Evan Bayh as a congressional aide, and then worked as chief of staff for John Cranley when he served on the Cincinnati City Council.[1][3]

After working for Bayh and Cranley for three years, Schroder decided to go into health policy.[3] She earned her Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 2004.[2] She worked for the Advisory Board Company as a consultant[3] and then for the Clinton Health Access Initiative for 12 years, spending two of those years in Zambia. Cranley, as mayor of Cincinnati, appointed Schroder to the Cincinnati Health Department board.[1]

Political career

In July 2019, Schroder announced that she would run as a Democrat in the 2020 elections for the United States House of Representatives in Ohio's 1st congressional district, held by Republican Steve Chabot.[1] She defeated Nikki Foster in the primary election.[4]

Personal life

Schroder was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma at the age of 33.[1] After four months of chemotherapy, she reached five years cancer-free at age 38.[3] Schroder is married to John Juech, an assistant city manager for Cincinnati. They have two children and live in Clifton, Cincinnati.[1]
