Born in Melitopol, Ukraine, former USSR, DePasquale grew up in a middle-class family. Her mother was a choreographer at her own dance studio and her father was a businessman. She later moved to Alushta, Ukraine, in the Crimean peninsula, and spent most of her childhood there.[citation needed]

After moving to Moscow at the age of 14, DePasquale signed a contract with the Red Stars modeling agency. While modeling in Moscow, she was spotted by Ford Models Europe and was invited to work in Paris. By 1999, DePasquale had signed a contract with Ford Models in New York.[citation needed]

Career as a Designer[edit]

In 2001, fashion designer John Galliano, formerly of Christian Dior, hired DePasquale to assist his creative team with prêt-à-porter and haute couture collections for both the John Galliano and Christian Dior fashion houses.[1] In March 2007, DePasquale started her own company, Katbasics, a women’s apparel business that features her own designs and collections. In 2009, Katbasics launched Kat Cashmere, a cashmere sweater line.[citation needed]
