Life and career[edit]

Early life[edit]

Katie Brusseau was born on August 17, 2005, in Maryland. Her parents jobs are unknown. She moved to northern Virginia when she was young.

When Brusseau entered middle school, she joined the theater department, where she grew to love lighting design. She designed lighting for multiple high school productions, eventually being nominated for a Cappie for her design of Bram Stoker's Dracula.

Early career[edit]

Brusseau released her debut single entitled "Holiday Type" on November 29, 2022. It was self produced. The song describes the wishes of someone who is in love with a person far away from the narrator to be closer both physically and emotionally to said narrator.

On February 1, 2023, she released her debut EP I had a flame. It was also self produced. It featured 5 songs in total with a runtime of 17 minutes and 54 seconds. The EP explored feelings of unrequited love and affection as well as new feelings in romantic relationships. It was released to a fair amount of praise from her fans.

Lighting design[edit]

In addition to music, Brusseau is also a lighting designer. She has designed for two Cappies nominated shows over her high school career. Brusseau's first lighting design was for A Midsummer Night's Dream. The show was the Lake Braddock Theatre's first movie-form production, as the COVID-19 pandemic had shut down most normal activities. Brusseau's lighting was praised as "consistent"[1] and the show was "enhanced" by her lighting design.

Brusseau's second lighting design was for The Heidi Chronicles. Lake Braddock's production was nominated by the Cappie critics for Best Play. Brusseau's design included hanging frames lit by LED strips to both add another lighting source to the stage but also mimic the main character Heidi's fascination with art. Her "thoughtful" design "beautifully silhouetted" the actors through the many decades of the show.[2]

Brusseau's third lighting design and final design for her high school career was for Bram Stoker's Dracula. Alongside fellow designer Sungah Kong, she was nominated for a Cappie for Best Lighting and contributed to the production earning a nomination for Best Show. Of Brusseau's design, it was "colorful yet sinister"[3] and "[created] a sense of dread for characters and audience alike".[4]
