Katie Elizabeth Hill (born 8 March 2003) is an English actress. She is best known for her role of Sarah Sugden in the ITV soap opera Emmerdale.
Early life[edit]
Katie Elizabeth Hill was born in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England on 8 March 2003,[1][2] as the younger of two children to Graeme Malcolm S Hill and Jane Elizabeth Hill (née Iceton). She has an elder sister.
Hill trained at Scalakids School of Performing Arts in Rawdon, West Yorkshire.[3]
Career[edit]
Hill made her theatre debut at the age of two. She portrayed Maggie in Sir Tommy Steel's 2005 West End revival of Scrooge: The Musical at the London Palladium. She portrayed Florence in Sir Cameron Mackintosh's 2009 West End revival of Oliver! at Theatre Royal Drury Lane. She portrayed Little Cosette in the 2015 Yorkshire revival of Futurist Productions' Les Misérables at Yeadon Town Hall.[3]
Hill made her television debut on 23 January 2017, when she took over the role of Sarah Sugden in the ITV soap opera Emmerdale.[4] She replaced Sophia Amber Moore, who held the role for nine years, and is the fifth actress.[5] The producers opted to recast the role in late 2016 to an older actress, "due to the nature of the storyline of the character".[6][7] On 28 May 2020, she took part in the Wolfpack Sessions on Emmerdale's YouTube channel.[8] In an interview with Inside Soap magazine on 20 July 2020, she said: "It's really fun… When I first came into Emmerdale, I was playing an innocent little girl who was fighting an illness, and it was all quite emotional, heavy stuff. So to be able to play this side of Sarah and show that she also has a bit of Dingle in her – which I think most people expected her to have – has been great."[9]
Hill is a gifted singer and a talented dancer.[3] She often uploads videos of herself singing and dancing to her Instagram and TikTok accounts.[10][11] In January 2023, she announced that she is working on making music and is hoping to release her work in the future.[12][13]
Personal life[edit]
Hill tested positive for COVID-19 in late July 2021. She had made a full recovery by August, after self isolating.[14][15][16][17][18]
Hill is close friends with her Emmerdale co-star Daisy Campbell (Amelia Spencer).[19]
