Katie Silver is an Australian journalist, who is employed as an Asia Business reporter by the BBC.

Biography[edit]

Silver attended Loreto Kirribilli before completing science and international business degrees at the University of Sydney. During this time she lived in Argentina..[1], worked as a journalist at the Guadalajara Reporter in Mexico and as a science journalist at Cosmos (Australian magazine). During her career she has worked as a correspondent at CNN in New York[2], Australian Broadcasting Corporation in Sydney, Sky UK in Australia and London[3].

Since 2015, she has been an on-air correspondent for the BBC, specialising in health, science and most recently business. She currently works out of their Singapore bureau, having been based in London for five years. She has also written for The Saturday Paper[4], BBC Earth[5] and BBC Future[6]. She often covers different science or science stories such as 3D printing for faces[7] or using dance for the elderly[8] .

She won Mental Health Story of the Year for a documentary looking into the genetic basis of mental illness[9]. She was also reporting in a segment on Woman's Hour where a producer mixed a Japanese doctor up with a Vietnamese film-maker[10]. She has also moderated science events for The Royal Institution[11] and the Australian High Commission in London[12]
