Katie Sturino is an American author, entrepreneur and body acceptance advocate. She is the author of the 2016 book ToastHampton: How to Summer in Style,[1] and the 2021 book Body Talk: How to Embrace Your Body and Start Living Your Best Life.[2] She is also the founder of Megababe, a company that produces "products for thigh chafing, breast sweat and melasma mustaches",[3] and the host of the Boob Sweat podcast.[4]
Early life and education[edit]
Sturino graduated from University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2003.[5]
Career[edit]
Sturino began her career interning at Chanel, then worked in public relations at Dolce & Gabbana before starting her own public relations firm.[6] She first became noticed through the Instagram account of her rescue King Charles spaniel, Toast.[7] Her style blog, The 12-ish Style, gained attention in 2015 for its depiction of glamour and style on a plus-size body.[8]
Sturino's social media account supports plus size fashion and body confidence. Campaigns include a "Super Size the Look" series in which Sturino recreates celebrity outfits using plus-size clothing[9] and #MakeMySize, a hashtag campaign that calls for brands to create a larger range of sizes. [10]
Sturino founded Megababe in 2017. The company launched with Thigh Rescue, an anti-thigh-chafe product, then expanded to "natural deodorants, a clarifying butt mask, an anti boob-sweat powder, and a detoxifying underarm mask."[11] As of 2021, Megababe products are sold at national chains such as Ulta, Target, and Anthropologie.[12]
Her first book, ToastHampton: How to Summer in Style, published by Harper Collins in 2016,[13] is a humorous photo book featuring Sturino's dog Toast enjoying summer activities; Toast appeared on Good Morning America as part of the book launch. [14] Sturino's second book, Body Talk, was published by Penguin Random House in 2021. Body Talk was described by Forbes as "part confessional, part workbook."[15]
Sturino began hosting the Boob Sweat podcast in 2020.[16] The podcast addresses topics such as divorce, diversity in fashion, freezing eggs, and women's friendships. Former guests on the show include Raven Leilani, Cecile Richards, and Hunter McGrady.
Personal life[edit]
Sturino married Josh Ostrovsky in 2014; the couple divorced in 2016.[17] In 2019, Sturino married law student John Forkin; Forkin took Sturino's last name.[18]
