Kaviraj Sukon
Kaviraj Sukon is a current Mauritian Member of Parliament from the political party Alliance du Changement[1] and and founder of the Open University of Mauritius.[2]Currently he is a Minister of Tertiary Education, Science and Research in the Government of Mauritius.[3][4]

Politics
He is currently serving as the Member of Parliament for Constituency No. 7 – Piton and Rivière du Rempart and was appointed Minister of Tertiary Education, Science and Research on 22 November 2024.[5]
Academics
In 2012, Kaviraj established the Open University of Mauritius (OU), where he serves as its founder and director general. OU is currently the only institution in the area to have seen consistent, positive development over the previous six years, in addition to being financially independent and ISO-certified. OU belongs to prominent global networks as the Association of Commonwealth Universities. To solve a tridiagonal linear system of equations, he created the Two-parameter Alternative Group Explicit (TAGE) Iterative Method[6], which is currently being utilised by other researchers. Additionally, from 2005 to 2011, he directed the creation of the National Human Resource Development Plan for Mauritius while establishing and overseeing the Human Resource Development Council's Research and Consultancy Division.He has also served as a consultant for UNESCO, the ILO, the UNDP, and ADEA,and other organisations. In addition to supervising numerous master's and doctorate theses, he has published research papers. He completed his Ph.D. in Computational Mathematics at the University of Mauritius in 1997 after attending the Loughborough University in the United Kingdom. He graduated with a Distinction (first place) MBA from the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom (2011). He holds an honorary professorship at the esteemed Imperial College in London, UK.[7]
