Kayaking at Kotepally is a sports activity at the Kotepally Dam, which is located about 20 km away from the famous Vikarabad hills.[1][2] On 24/02/2016, The government of Telangana, Irrigation & CAD Department issued a government order numbered G.O.RT.No. 198 stating that government have accorded permission to the Engineer-in-Chief (Irrigation), Hyderabad to introduce water sports and skills development programs at Kotpally Project to promote tourism and create employment opportunities for the local youth and considered Matsyakara Yuvajana Sangam of Kotpally Vagu Project of Progressive Telangana Foundation (PTF) for taking up boating activities.[3]

Background

It is an idea of Chevella former Member of Parliament Konda Vishweshwar Reddy to make Kotepally dam into a most sought-after tourist destination near Hyderabad, and he had introduced Kayak boating facility at the Kotepally dam, with a motive to create employment opportunities for the local youth and also to locally plug in the migration and exploit the rural tourism destinations in Telangana,[4] under Justice Konda Madhava Reddy Foundation (JKMR),[5] which is being run in memory of his late father and former Chief Justice of High Court, Hyderabad, Konda Madhava Reddy. The project helped to create employment for 35 local youth, including five women, and indirect employment for about 100 people.[6]

Facilities

There are 14 double Kayak boats and 10 single Kayak boats. To maintain hygiene on the dam premises, the Justice Konda Madhava Reddy Foundation had also placed mobile toilets for public use.[7] There are also close to a dozen tea and food stalls.[8] Haritha Resort in Ananthagiri is a nearby resort[9][10]
