Kayode Ariyibi (born 19 September 1993) is a Nigerian product designer and entrepreneur. He is founder of Tida Retail, a Nigerian retail technology startup focused on digitizing informal businesses across Africa.
Early life and education
Ariyibi was born on 19 September 1993 in Ikeja, Lagos State, Nigeria. His father was an accountant and lecturer, and his mother ran a local bakery and catering business.
He studied French at the Nigerian French Language Village (NFLV) and later completed a diploma there. While exploring his interests, Ariyibi developed a passion for graphic design and pursued vocational training at a local print shop, where he learned the fundamentals of design. This hands-on experience laid the foundation for his self-taught journey into product design, which he further developed through online courses and independent projects.
Career
Ariyibi began his professional career at Boom Player (now known as Boomplay), a music streaming platform in Africa. He worked as the Brand Designer, his designs contributed to the marketing efforts that helped the platform grow into one of the largest streaming services on the continent.[1][2][3][4]
He later joined Helium Health, contributing to HeliumOS, an electronic medical records (EMR) system, and HeliumCredit, a financial product for healthcare providers. His work helped improve access to healthcare financing and made it easier for healthcare providers to manage patient care.[5] At Helium Health, Ariyibi also led design efforts on HeliumMum, a maternal care product aimed at helping healthcare workers identify and prioritize at-risk patients, improving antenatal care outcomes.[6]
Later, Ariyibi worked at Interswitch Group, developing digital payment and banking solutions, including platforms such as MoneyMaster PSB and mobile banking applications for clients such as Globacom (Glo), First Bank of Nigeria, First Atlantic Bank Ghana, and Signature Bank of Nigeria.[7][8]
He also worked with Mkobo Microfinance Bank, leading the design of its mobile banking application for salaried and small-business customers.[9]
Entrepreneurship
In 2024, Ariyibi founded Tida Retail, a startup that provides a point of sale (POS) platform for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria. The platform integrates payments, inventory management, and business analytics, enabling business owners to manage operations more efficiently and improve customer service. Tida Retail partners with payment providers such as Paystack and PalmPay and introduced a Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) hardware financing model for merchants, making it easier for businesses to adopt technology.[10][11]
