Kazi Ahmed (Bengali: কাজী আহমেদ) is a Bangladeshi artist, entrepreneur and publisher.[1] He is the inventor of RainbowBrush, the world's first patented brush-tips marker.[2][3][4] He is the founder and CEO of Bangladesh Trade Development Council (simply BDTDC).[5][6] He is a dogged defender of the sustainable manufacturing and environmental protection.[7]
Personal life and education[edit]
Kazi Ahmed was born on 15 February 1967 in Comilla district of Bangladesh.[8][9] He is the eldest son of his parents.[10] He is married to Cindy and altogether they have three children.[9] At present, he lives mostly in Florida, USA. He was a student of physics in the University of Dhaka.[11] He studied Associate of Arts and Science at McGill University, and Masters of Information Management from the University of British Columbia.[12]
Career[edit]
In 1986, Kazi Ahmed started working as a telex operator in Saudi Arabia. Utilizing components from his employer's garage, Kazi created an oven that can cook with up to 40% less energy. The National Research Council of Canada invited him to fly to Canada for a demo after reading about his innovation in Saudi newspapers. In 1989, he migrated to Vancouver, although in the end, he became a street artist. In 1992, he developed a calligraphic style called "Kazigraphy," in which the lines that correspond to the letters are replaced by colorful fish, plants, and animals.[9] The RainbowBrush, the trademark of his products, is licensed by seven international patents, and he maintains offices in Canada, Hong Kong, and the US.[11] He has a remarkable record of success in the US and Canada.[13] As a result, he took initiative to export Bangladeshi commodities internationally because of the huge demand for handicraft and cottage industry products of Bangladesh in the world market.[14] He founded the BDTDC in 2015, Bangladesh's largest online B2B marketplace.[15][16] He established the BDTDC dedicated to advancing, supporting, and developing an environmentally friendly environment through public education and empowerment of all people in order to incorporate the UN's goals for sustainable development and in the production of goods for exportation.[7]
