Kazuto Kawabe (川邊 一外, Kawabe Kazuto) (born October 28, 1931) is a Japanese screenwriter, assistant director, and game scenario writer. He was the director of the Shochiku Scenario Research Institute and a visiting professor at the College of Image Arts and Sciences, Ritsumeikan University. He received the Japan Local Newspaper Association Bronze Award for Excellence.
He was born in Tokyo. Kawabe graduated from the Faculty of Sociology of Hitotsubashi University in 1954[1] and joined the Shochiku Ofuna Film Studio.[2] He studied under Manao Horiuchi. After working as the chief assistant director of the James Bond movie "You Only Live Twice"[3] starring Sean Connery [4], he has been a full-time lecturer at the Matsutake Scenario Research Institute since 1981, and wrote the script for the movie "Seito Shokun!". In 1987, he became the director of Shochiku Scenario Research Institute, from which he retired in 1992[5]. In 1995, he received the Japan Local Newspaper Association Bronze Award for Excellence. He is a lecturer at Nihon University College of Art, Department of Film in 1999, and a visiting professor at Ritsumeikan University College of Image Arts and Sciences in 2007 [6]. During this time, he also wrote game scenarios such as the original scenario for the role-playing game "Jade Cocoon: Story".
