History
Kempower was founded in 2017 by Tomi Ristimäki and Juha-Matti Mäkelä. The company was initially focused on developing charging solutions for electric buses, but it has since expanded its product range to include charging solutions for all types of electric vehicles.
In 2021, Kempower raised €15 million in a Series A funding round led by Breakthrough Energy Ventures. The company used the funding to expand its production capacity and to develop new charging solutions.
In 2022, Kempower acquired the Swedish charging company Ubitricity. The acquisition gave Kempower access to Ubitricity's network of over 2,000 charging stations in Europe.
In 2023, Kempower built and began operation of its first six bay drive-through public charging station in North America, in Quebec, Canada.[3][4]
In 2023, Kempower announced a U.S. factory which will be a converted facility in Durham, North Carolina measuring 154,000 square feet when it's completed.
Operations
