Kennedi Edney (born August 14, 1998) is an American artistic gymnast.[2] In 2014 and 2015, she won gold at the Junior Olympic National Championships.[3][4][5]
Early life[edit]
Born in Los Angeles, California and currently attends Chino Hills High School, in her junior year. Her father is former UCLA Bruins basketball player, Tyus Edney.[6] Following high school graduation, Edney will attend Louisiana State University and will compete for their gymnastics team.[7] Initially, Kennedi expressed interest in competing for the UCLA Bruins gymnastics team, the alma mater of her father, but later decided against it.[8][9]
Career[edit]
Edney has competed Level 10 for the majority of her gymnastics career but qualified to Junior International Elite for a brief spell during the 2013 season. She moved up to Level 10 for the 2012 season and qualified to the 2012 Nastia Liukin Cup. She finished 27th in a field of 29 gymnasts; scoring 35.500.[10] She finished sixth at Regionals[11] and third at States and then was 17th at J.O. Nationals.
Edney placed 33rd in the all-around at the 2013 Secret U.S. Classic, not advancing to Nationals.[12] In 2014, she won the Junior Olympic National Championship.[13] For the 2014 season high scores, she was ranked 1st nationally on vault[14] and bars[15] and was sixth in the all-around.[16] She announced her commitment to LSU on March 13, 2014.[17]
In 2015, Edney was ranked #1 nationally on vault[18] and fourth in the all-around.[19] She was J.O. National champion for the Senior B division; defending her title.[20]
