Kentico is a proprietary content management system developed by Kentico Software, based in Brno, Czech Republic.[2][3]
History
Kentico Software was founded in 2004 by Petr Palas.[1][4] Kentico CMS was the company's first product, which provided content management tools for websites.[5][2]
In 2009, Kentico was included in Deloitte's Technology Fast 50 Central Europe list in a category for companies demonstrating revenue growth.[6]
In 2016, Kentico created a new product for headless content management systems called Kentico Cloud,[7] which was renamed Kontent by Kentico in 2020.[5]
In 2022, Kentico CMS and Kontent by Kentico were separated into independent companies.[8][5] Kentico Software continued to maintain Kentico CMS under a new name Kentico Xperience, and Kontent by Kentico was rebranded to Kontent.ai.[9]
Following a rewrite in 2023, the platform was rebranded as Xperience by Kentico.[10][4] The new version supported multiple channels (including websites and email).[10]
Leadership
Petr Palas was the company's CEO from its founding in 2004 until 2022.[3] Dominik Pinter was appointed CEO of Kentico Software in July 2022.[11]
Technology
Kentico is built on ASP.NET Core and uses Microsoft SQL Server for database storage.[12] The admin site is built as a single-page application (SPA) using ReactJS.[13] The platform can be hosted on-premises or through cloud providers such as Microsoft Azure.[14][15]
Community
Starting in 2009,[16] Kentico has held an annual Site of the Year competition to recognize websites built on its platform.[17][18]
Since 2010[19], Kentico has hosted an annual partner conference called Kentico Connection. The conference has taken place in locations across North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. The conference focuses on market trends, product roadmap discussions, licensing, and partner program changes.[20][21]
The company offers rewards programs for professionals and community members launched in 2010 and 2025.[22][23][24] Kentico employees are not eligible for the awards.[24]
Reception
In 2025, Kentico was included as a Niche Player in Gartner's Magic Quadrant for Digital Experience Platforms. CX Today stated that Niche Players are vendors that find success in specific industries, company sizes, or geographic segments, but may lag behind Leaders in terms of broader capabilities, execution, or vision.[25]
In 2024, Kentico was listed as a Leader in G2's Grid® Report for Digital Experience Platforms (DXP).[26] According to HG Insights, G2's Leader status is a vendor that has scored highly for customer satisfaction and market impact.[27] According to G2's user reviews, users have reported concerns about pricing, limited features, and challenges with customization.[28]
