3ICE

3ICE is a professional 3-on-3 ice hockey league scheduled to debut in North America in 2021. Inspired by the excitement of 3-on-3 overtime play in the National Hockey League, the league aims to bring fast-paced hockey action to fans.

The touring league will run from June to the end of August, starting right after the Stanley Cup Final and ending before NHL training camps. Created by EJ Johnston, son of former pro hockey goalie and coach Ed Johnston, and NHL veteran Craig Patrick, the league will feature eight teams with seven players each and a head coach. These teams will compete in nine planned stops across North America.

Games will consist of two eight-minute halves on a full-sized rink, using a running clock to maintain a fast pace. Teams will participate in bracket-style tournaments at each stop. The league hopes to attract former NHL players and will include fan interaction elements, such as voting to determine the result of a video goal review.
